Washington State DUI
DUI Knowledge Resource & Public Awareness
Washington State DUI intends to provide current unbiased facts regarding any aspect of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) in the State of Washington. The DUI information will be presented from a prosecutor and DUI defense lawyer prospective. A repository of DUI information is crucial because there is a severe lack of DUI knowledge from the general public. The DUI laws are complicated and the breath test evidence relies upon complex scientific properties. This is not common knowledge and there simply is no continual preventive education for the public. Those attending Traffic Safety School may watch a video about the dangers of DUI, but for most people this is the only source of their knowledge about DUI.
Police officers, prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges and court staff understand the nuances of the DUI laws. They understand the harsh DUI Penalties that affect repeat offenders, and they are aware of the mandatory DUI Penalties for a first time offender. They understand how much alcohol it takes to provide a 0.08 breath or blood test result. Most people not involved with the criminal justice system understand it is quite easy reaching the 0.08 legal limit.
Former clients, jurors, friends and family members know absolutely nothing about the crime of DUI. Of course everyone understands DUI is terrible and no one should drink and drive, but the general public does not truly understand how easy it is to be arrested for DUI. They do not understand the criminal court system, or the Department of Licensing (DOL) administrative hearing process. When arrested for DUI expect a criminal lawsuit and a separate civil lawsuit by DOL. Most people are unaware of the civil lawsuit and license consequences.
