Thomas Dekker, the young John Connor of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, agreed to a legal settlement with prosecutors regarding his October DUI arrest. The 22 year old Hollywood star pleaded no contest to the reduced criminal charge of reckless driving. Dekker will spend two years on informal probation, attend an alcohol education class and pay about $300 in fines.
Prosecutors decided to reduce the DUI charge because of witness credibility issues. Dekker allegedly sideswiped a bicyclist, but it turns out the cyclist ran a stop sign and was traveling on the wrong side of the road. Unsure how that has any bearing on a DUI case.
Being at fault of an accident is not a criminal element of the DUI crime. Dekker could have been driving perfectly within his lane, following the speed limit and adhering to every other traffic law. If someone plowed into him, then he would still would be arrested for DUI. You only need to be under the influence of intoxicants or provide a breath sample above your state’s legal limit. Being at fault of an accident has no bearing on guilt for DUI. Dekker dodged a bullet and received a nice gift from the prosecutors.
