Seattle, Washington – August 1st – 3rd, 2008. Seafair is Seattle’s summer festival that that includes various parades, a triathlon, half marathon, milk carton derby and more. However, Seafair always ends on the first weekend of August with roaring hydroplane turbines, screaming Blue Angels and hundreds of thousands partying on land and on water.
The finale three day weekend is located on Lake Washington and features the fan favorite log boom. Hundreds of boats large and small park on the log boom for the best seats on the race course. Of course there is plenty of real estate behind the log boom for thousands of other boats to anchor. The lake is party central, but boating under the influence (BUI) in Washington is a crime.
Last year law enforcement arrested 70 for BUI at Seafair. Would that figure increase for Seafair 2008, or have Washington boaters become more responsible? Well there were only 23 BUI arrests this year at Seafair! That is a 68% reduction from 2007.
