Scottsdale, Arizona. December 29, 2006. Early Friday morning, former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. Scottsdale, like most cities, increases DUI enforcement with a DUI emphasis patrol during the holidays.
A Buckeye Police Department officer observed Mike Tyson operate his BMW erratically. Mike Tyson voluntarily submitted to the field sobriety tests. During the field sobriety tests, the investigating officer noted evidence of impairment and discovered baggies with a white powdery substance. Mike Tyson made admissions about ingesting cocaine. Mike allegedly stated he is addicted to cocaine and uses the narcotic whenever he can. Police also noted Mike Tyson was polite and cooperative throughout the DUI investigation.
Mike Tyson’s preliminary court hearing, the DUI arraignment, took place later Friday. Mike Tyson was released without bail. Superior Court Commissioner Sheila Madden did impose conditions of release. Those release conditions include:
Do not leave the State of Arizona;
Do not possess any weapons
Do not possess any non-prescribed drugs or illicit drugs;
Do not drive a motor vehicle without a valid license and insurance;
Do not consume any alcohol or other intoxicants; and
Do not commit and new criminal violations.
Mike Tyson is no stranger to breaking the law. Tyson served time in prison for a rape conviction.
