Fulton County, Georgia. Georgia Tech fans know Joe Hamilton as a skilled quarterback that rallied their football team to the ACC championship, and joined the NFL. Hamilton also recently joined his alma mater’s coaching staff. Unfortunately, Hamilton took a hit to his reputation by getting arrested for DUI and Hit & Run.
The former Heisman runner-up was pulled over by police because his vehicle matched the description of a vehicle involved in a Hit & Run. During the traffic stop police officers detected an odor of intoxicants on Hamilton’s breath. Hamilton also admitted that he was involved in an accident earlier that night.
This was enough for the officer to ask Hamilton to complete field sobriety tests. Apparently, Hamilton was unsteady on his feet and lost his balance. During the one leg stand Hamilton dropped his raised foot to the ground a few times. After the arrest he was transported and submitted to a breath test. Hamilton produced two blood alcohol content readings of 0.193 and 0.199. The DUI legal limit in Georgia is 0.08. During an inventory search of Hamilton’s car the police discovered an open container of beer and a marijuana joint.
Hamilton is the assistant director of player personnel which means he will do recruiting. At least we know he will show prospects a good time when they tour the campus. Nothing says, “Come to our football program,” better than having a few brews and getting blazed by some doobie.
