Beverly Hills, California – August 23, 2007. Lindsay Lohan enters a plea agreement and escapes the severe punishment just about everyone else would receive if they were in her situation. With two pending DUIs and cocaine criminal charges Lohan will serve only 1 day in jail. Lindsay must also complete 10 days of community service and successfully complete substance abuse treatment.
Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers defended the plea agreement surmising this is a typical case resolution. I always thought California was a tad stricter on DUI compared to Washington. I was completely wrong. Washington State defendants in a similar situation would become very familiar with our jail system. The minimum jail term for a second DUI is 30 to 45 days.
It should be pointed out that DUI in Washington and California is only a misdemeanor. Lindsay’s cocaine charges are felonies, and she receives 1 day of jail. Merry Christmas Lindsay. My favorite holiday came early for you this year.
I sincerely hope Lindsay can overcome her disease with alcohol and drugs. Lohan is a very talented actress that can still turn her life around if she dedicates herself to treatment. Good luck Lindsay.
