Garth O'Brien

Having developed a reputation with judges and defense lawyers alike as an aggressive, thoroughly prepared prosecutor, Garth O'Brien was rapidly becoming one of the most highly respected trial lawyers for the Seattle City Attorney's Criminal Division when he went into private practice. Garth had spent two years in the trenches with the prosecutor's office that tries more criminal cases than any other office in the state while gaining invaluable insight into prosecutorial tactics and the defense of DUIs. He then spent five years defending DUIs at one of the best DUI law firms in the Seattle region.

Garth graduated from Western Washington University in 1996 and from the Seattle University School of Law in 1999. Garth was named a state of Washington "Rising Star" by the publication "Washington Law & Politics" in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Garth O'Brien also received recognition by the publication “Seattle Magazine” selecting Garth as one of “Seattle’s Top Lawyers” in 2005.

Garth O'Brien is a graduate of the prestigious "Mastering Scientific Evidence in DUI Cases" program presented in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a two time graduate from the National College of DUI Defense, presented at Harvard Law School, in July, 2002, and in San Diego in February 2004. He received certification in administering Standardized Field Sobriety Tests in 2002 and Drug Recognition Expert training in 2004. Garth also received instruction in the theory of Science of Evidential Breath Alcohol Testing in 2004 from National Patent Analytical Systems; the developers of the BAC DataMaster breath test machine. This training certified Garth to operate, perform essential diagnostic verifications, and calibration checks on Washington State’s BAC Datamaster breath machines.

Garth gained interest managing Internet marketing and website development while in private practice. He managed the Internet marketing opportunities for both of his previous law firms. Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) are inseparable. Learning the intricacies and appreciating the value of SEO became a passion for Garth. In the fall of 2006, he made a career transition from full time practicing lawyer to full time SEO & SEM with GMI (Global Market Insite, Inc.). Since joining GMI, Garth was promoted to Product Marketing Manager for GMI's global consumer panels. Garth then was elevated to Senior Operations Manager for GMI's consumer market research online community. Garth manages serveral online communities that involves over 6 million members.

He maintains this website to educate the public about the dangers of Driving Under the Influence and to provide insight on the Washington State criminal justice system. Garth is an advocate for stopping DUI and making the roadways safer for the citizens of Washington State. By imparting his knowledge about the crime of DUI he hopes to generate awareness and caution.

He is a lifelong resident of the Seattle area and was a member of the cross country and distance track teams in college. His interests include snow sports, soccer, travel, military history, Seafair, the Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Mariners.
